The legislative liaison committee has the task of monitoring canine related
legislation around the country and keeping the CSCA membership informed on
these issues. This includes tracking legislation as it moves through the
legislative body and, when appropriate, it may entail contacting legislators by
email, letter and/or by telephone in support of or opposition to the particular
legislative proposal. In some circumstances, we may also monitor relevant
litigation as it proceeds through the court system.
A significant responsibility of the committee is to offer encouragement and
support to club members as they act to support/oppose legislation in their own
geographic regions. I have been pleased by the growing number of CSCA members
who have responded to legislative alerts or have contacted the committee
concerning proposals in their local areas.
