It is with much sadness that we must report that Sheila Miller, one of CSCA’s earliest members (1973) passed away on Tuesday July 5, 2022. She was 90 years old and had been in poor health since August, 2021. Since that time she had been hospitalized multiple times and finally was placed in an extended care facility. At her request, there will be no funeral services.
She was involved with dogs for most of her adult life. Most recently (before Clumbers) she had St. Bernards and was, in fact, both a St. Bernard and Clumber Spaniel Judge. Her last Clumber died about 2 years ago and she then got from a member of the Lexington Kennel club of which she was a member a Coton de Tulear. She loved him a lot but conceded that Clumbers were her life!
Until her retirement in about 2010 Sheila was employed by General Atomics in southern California . She worked with computers for many years including the time when one computer took up an entire room. Unknown to most people she was a member of MENSA.
In April of 1996 (I think that was the year) CSCA held their national specialty at the Kentucky Horse Park here in Lexington Those of you who attended the National Specialty will recall how incredibly beautiful the area is and both Sheila and I took time to drive around the area. In 2000 following my retirement, I sold my house in Los Angeles and bought a farm near Waco, Kentucky. Sheila visited me there several times and chose to move to Lexington when she retired. Both in southern California and in Lexington, Sheila was involved with community theatre in addition to her life with Clumbers. She was a life member of the Clumber Spaniel Club of America, having joined in 1973.
Sheila will be greatly missed. If anyone is interested in giving donations as a tribute to her, please send them to Clumber Spaniel Rescue Charitable Trust , a charitable organization.
